Found in nearly every manufacturing business, from industrial parts to consumer goods. Becomes critical as soon as production moves beyond a small team or single shift — usually around 15–20+ employees or when a founder can’t oversee daily production directly.

Oversee the entire production floor — staffing, equipment, materials, and output
Enforce safety, quality, and productivity standards
Schedule production runs to meet customer demand
Troubleshoot process disruptions and machine downtime
Manage hiring, training, and performance for line-level employees
Work cross-functionally with procurement, engineering, logistics, and quality assurance
Track and report key metrics: efficiency, waste, downtime, quality defects, and throughput
Foster a culture of continuous improvement
Core Requirements
Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, safety standards, and equipment
Strong leadership skills — both command presence and people development
Proficiency with ERP or MRP systems and production scheduling tools
Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement frameworks
High tolerance for solving real-time problems under pressure
Bonus: OSHA, ISO, or industry-specific compliance knowledge
